New Monitor. Me Likey. 2405FPW Dell Ultrasharp
[ad#ab_post_top_lu]
So last week, I took the plunge…a long awaited plunge…into finally buying a nice computer monitor. I have done this before and it has not turned out well. My wife has seen me purchased a couple monitors, only to return them. With her financially blessing, she gave me the green light this third time in which I purchased a 2005 24 inch 2405FPW Dell Ultrasharp Monitor. I snagged it for $300 off ebay.
Ask anyone that knows me…I am anal when it comes to pixels and my monitor. The one I purchased is the exact same one I use at work, aside from the revision numbers being four off. That is why I got it, because the one at work I enjoy.
I have purchased a 22″ Dell from Best Buy for Christmas 2007, but I regretted the purchase within hours of hooking it up. Here is the deal.
Flat screen LCD Computer monitors typically come in two forms. True 8-bit and 6-bit with 2-bit dithering. Now, the 6-bit with dithering tend to be ones that have super fast response rates, handle moving video very well, etc… BUT the dithering is the keyword here. Look closely at text, graphics, etc.. on any flatscreen LCD monitor and you will typically see some blurring, ghosting, artifacting, etc… It’s nasty for someone who spends hours on end looking in photoshop at 800% zoom. Pixels matter for what I do, so I need a monitor that reflects that.
The 2005 version (2405FPW) of the Dell Ultrasharp uses a true 8-bit panel. Basically, Dell put alot of quality into this particular monitor. They have done the same for the 2407 and 2408, but I “believe” the 2405 uses a different panel really gives you the crispness you want on your screen, just like what you get typically with a nice CRT monitor.
I want to thank Constantx for being the provider of such a solid monitor as it’s been a week and the monitor is doing quite well. If it breaks anytime soon, I know where to find you 🙂 just kidding.
