Another reason I love WordPress – life just became easier
It’s no secret. I am a HUGE fan of WordPress. Always have, and they continue making improvements in their interface, the community continues making great plugins, and just overall it’s a great blogging and cms platform.
I was actually taken by surprise over something that happened I wasn’t expecting. I am sure its been a feature of WP for a LONG time, but I never had a reason to think it would help me until I actually needed it.
I am porting over a site that is built with WP on a windows/IIS server. I am moving it to a Linux server (yea) but the site has a TON of internal hardcoded links to things like “?page_id=454”, etc… I was concerned if I went with friendly URL’s or permalinks, I would be doing a ton of text replacing.
Fear not!
Whether its version 2.7 or version 1.5…I don’t know, but with my permalinks enabled, when I visit one of my numberic URL’s…it automatically redirects me to the appropriate friendly URL such as /about/. Awesome!
So anyways, I am excited because my life just became “that” much easier all because of that little enhancement. Thanks WordPress!
